Experience

Emily Thompson joined Babin Bessner Spry LLP as an associate in 2025, after completing her articling and summer terms with the firm.

Emily earned her J.D. (Cum Laude) from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, where she worked as a research assistant at the Centre for Law, Technology, and Society, focusing on intellectual property policy and international development. She also served as an associate editor of the Ottawa Law Review and interned in securities law within the finance-technology sector. In 2024, Emily and her two teammates placed first in both the oral proceedings and written submissions at the Oxford International Intellectual Property Moot Competition.

Prior to law school, Emily worked in strategic policy and planning at Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts (with Distinction) from Queen’s University, specializing in political studies with a minor in global development. During her undergraduate studies, she developed her passion for advocacy through student government and as head manager of a student-run corporate service.

Outside the office, Emily enjoys exploring Toronto’s vibrant food and art scenes and, in the same spirit, finding fresh perspectives and inspiration through travel.
