OUR STUDENTS

  • At Babin Bessner Spry,  we believe that great lawyering is formed early, through meaningful work, collaborative teams, and mentorship.
  • We support the training and development of students who share our commitment to excellence in advocacy, advice, and service.
  • If you’re looking to join a team-based boutique litigation firm where  you’ll  be  challenged, supported and  part of something bigger, our program might be the right fit.

HOW IT WORKS

  • We typically hire 1 to 3 summer students who have completed two years of law school, and 1 to 3 articling students per term. Our summer and articling program is non-rotational and tailored to each student’s needs.
  • Over their terms, our articling and summer students are exposed to real matters. You’ll gain hands-on experience and work closely alongside associates and partners.
  • Our students receive purposeful, substantive work, and play a key role in research, drafting, client meetings, and preparing for court attendances.
  • We pay our summer and articling students a salary competitive with other top-tier litigation boutiques in Toronto.

MENTORSHIP

  • Our students benefit from ongoing support from both formal and informal mentors. From day one, you will be paired with a mentor who will guide your growth, provide feedback and help you build your professional identity.
  • You will have regular check-ins, reviews, and developmental discussions – not just at the end of your term, but continuously.
  • Our firm also holds social events, firm gatherings, informal lunches, and opportunities to get to know people beyond the desk.

WHY CHOOSE US?

  • We are a top-tier boutique litigation firm: Babin Bessner Spry is ranked by The Globe and Mail as one of Canada’s best law firms, and is named by Canadian Lawyer as one of Canada’s Top 10 Boutique Litigation Law Firms, as well as being ranked by Chambers, Lexpert, Benchmark, and Best Lawyers.
  • As a boutique, we offer students greater exposure and earlier responsibility compared to other firms. You’ll see more of the work, more of the client, more of the courtroom, and more of your own growth.
  • You’ll become part of a tight-knit team gaining real file experience, real mentorship, real challenges, and real fun.

TESTIMONIALS

My student experience at Babin Bessner Spry was incredibly rewarding. I was exposed to a diverse range of files and was able to hone my legal research skills, attend client meetings and hearings, and participate in strategy meetings. The firm’s boutique size meant I had the opportunity to work closely with partners and senior lawyers who were generous with their time and mentorship. I left my 2L summer and articles feeling more confident in my legal skills, and inspired by the collegial and high-calibre practice environment at Babin Bessner Spry.

From the very beginning at BBS, you gain meaningful insight into litigation through hands-on work. The student program offers an excellent opportunity to build practical skills, bridge the gap between law school and real-world practice, and lay a strong foundation for a career in litigation.

From day one, I’ve appreciated the opportunity to work closely with the lawyers at Babin Bessner Spry LLP and to be involved in files from start to finish, gaining invaluable insight into every stage of the litigation process. The firm’s strong mentorship, engaging and complex files, and supportive team have provided an ideal environment to develop my skills and confidence as a lawyer. There is also a genuine sense of camaraderie among students and lawyers alike, which makes the experience both rewarding and enjoyable. I also value the firm’s strong representation of women in leadership, which was an important consideration when choosing where to begin my legal career.
